Movie Projector

A movie projector, or film projector, is an opto-mechanical device that displays motion picture film by projecting it onto a screen, sharing most of its optical and mechanical elements with the movie camera used to shoot the film. It developed from the magic lantern, introduced around 1659 by Christiaan Huygens, through stroboscopic animation devices such as Ludwig Döbler's 1847 screenings in Vienna and Eadweard Muybridge's 1879 Zoopraxiscope. The Lumière brothers perfected their Cinématographe in Lyon and began public exhibitions in Paris in late 1895, a moment credited with converting motion pictures generally to projection. Modern movie projectors built for digital cinema are essentially specialized video projectors.
