Power Steering

Power steering is a system that reduces the effort a driver needs to turn a vehicle's steering wheel by using a hydraulic or electric power source to assist the steering, while still allowing some feedback of the forces acting on the steered wheels. Francis W. Davis, an engineer with Pierce-Arrow's truck division who later worked at General Motors and Bendix, invented and demonstrated the first practical power steering system in 1926, building on earlier, less developed efforts such as Robert E. Twyford's 1900 mechanical power steering patent. Chrysler introduced the first commercially available power steering system on a passenger car, marketed as Hydraguide, on the 1951 Chrysler Imperial.
