The SJ Rc is a family of electric locomotives built in Sweden by ASEA between 1967 and 1988, with 366 units produced, making it the most-produced locomotive type in Swedish history. Built for Swedish State Railways to replace older D-class locomotives on both passenger and freight trains, the Rc grew out of technology first tried on the experimental Rb locomotive of the early 1960s, and its move from relay-based control to thyristor control cut maintenance costs and made performance more consistent. Rc locomotives still run in Sweden today under operators such as Green Cargo, Tagab and Trafikverket, though newer electric multiple units are gradually taking over its old passenger duties.
