Toilet Paper

Toilet paper is a tissue paper product manufactured to clean the body after using the toilet, most commonly supplied as a long perforated strip wound around a paperboard core for a wall dispenser. Modern rolls vary from one to six plies, with more plies giving greater strength and absorbency, and most are embossed with a pattern that increases surface area for effective cleaning. Paper used for hygiene was recorded in China by the 6th century AD, with dedicated toilet paper mass produced there by the 14th century, while the modern commercial product and its roll-based dispenser emerged in the 19th century, with a dispenser patent filed in 1883.
