Web Browser

A web browser is application software for accessing websites: when a user requests a web page, the browser retrieves its files from a web server and displays the page on the user's screen, and it can also show content stored locally on the user's own device. Tim Berners-Lee created the first web browser, called WorldWideWeb, in 1990, and he subsequently had Nicola Pellow develop the Line Mode Browser so that people using basic computer terminals could also view web pages. The Mosaic browser, released in April 1993, became the first web browser to achieve mainstream popularity through its graphical interface, which made browsing accessible to ordinary users and helped drive the rapid growth of the internet through the 1990s.
