Die casting is a mechanical engineering manufacturing method in which molten metal, typically a low-melting-point alloy of aluminum, zinc or magnesium, is forced under high pressure into a reusable steel mold called a die, filling the mold cavity quickly before the metal solidifies into a finished or near-finished part. Because the die can be reused thousands of times and the process fills complex cavities quickly and precisely, die casting is well suited to high-volume production of parts with fine detail, thin walls and good surface finish, and it is widely used in the automotive, consumer electronics and hardware industries for components ranging from engine housings to appliance parts.
