Pile Driving

Pile driving is the civil engineering method of installing a pile, a long structural column of timber, steel or concrete, into the ground to transfer the load of a building or other structure down to stronger soil or rock layers, typically by repeatedly striking the pile's top with a heavy weight or hydraulic hammer until it reaches the required depth or resistance. It is used wherever surface soil is too weak or unstable to support a foundation directly, such as in soft or waterlogged ground, and it underlies the foundations of structures ranging from bridges and piers to high-rise buildings.
