Engineers whose defining technological contribution is a system for treating water, air or waste, or for controlling pollution: water and wastewater treatment technology, air quality and emissions control systems, and solid waste management infrastructure. Belongs here: engineers credited with a specific treatment method or pollution-control system, applied at municipal or industrial scale. Does not belong here: the civil-scale infrastructure that carries clean water once treated, such as an aqueduct or dam, grouped under Civil Engineering, or the raw chemical process an environmental system depends on, grouped under Chemical Engineering when the contribution is the chemistry itself rather than the environmental system built around it.
