Civil Engineering

Engineered systems built at civil infrastructure scale: bridges, dams, tunnels, water-supply and irrigation networks, and the large fixed structures that a community or region depends on. Belongs here: a specific bridge, dam, aqueduct or comparable piece of infrastructure considered as an engineered system rather than as the career of the engineer who designed it. Does not belong here: the individual mechanical or electrical components embedded inside a civil structure, such as its pumps or its power supply, grouped under Mechanical or Electrical Engineering where the component itself, not the structure, is the subject.
