The State Grid Corporation of China, known as State Grid, is a Chinese state owned electric utility that operates China's dominant power transmission and distribution network and is the largest utility company in the world. As of March 2024 it ranked as the world's third largest company overall by revenue, behind only Walmart and Amazon, and the largest government owned company by revenue, reporting 1.3 million employees, 1.1 billion customers and revenue equivalent to about 546 billion US dollars in 2023. It was created after a 2002 reform split the former State Electric Power Corporation into five power generation groups that kept the power plants and five regional subsidiaries, including State Grid itself, that took over the transmission and distribution grid. It is overseen by the State owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of China's State Council.
