A gas turbine is a continuous flow internal combustion engine in which air is compressed, fuel is burned in that compressed air, and the resulting hot gas expands through a turbine. The turbine both drives the compressor and, depending on the design, can also produce thrust, shaft power, or both, with the compressor, combustor and turbine together forming the engine's gas generator core.
