Hydraulic Press

A hydraulic press is a machine that uses a hydraulic cylinder to generate a compressive force, applying Pascal's principle that pressure exerted anywhere in an enclosed fluid is transmitted equally throughout it, so that a modest force on a small piston can produce a much larger force on a larger one. It was invented by the English engineer Joseph Bramah, who patented the device, sometimes called the Bramah press in his honor, in 1795, developing the idea while studying fluid dynamics in the course of his separate work on improved lock and toilet mechanisms.
