Should sintering's origin be dated to its ancient craft use in fired ceramics and early sintered-metal artifacts, or to William Coolidge's 1909 patented process, the point it became a deliberately engineered industrial technique?

Open Question

Ancient artisans achieved sintering empirically without understanding or naming the underlying process, so the entity's single origin-year property cannot represent both an ancient craft practice and a specific engineering milestone at once.

What would resolve this A convention for whether this atlas's "origin-year" property means first craft use or first deliberate engineering formalization would settle which date belongs on this fact, consistent with how the atlas already treats other ancient-craft-to-modern-engineering methods.

View At A Past Year

The atlas records no dated fact of its own for this entry, so there is no other year to choose.
